I saw this on LinkedIn and is a great way of thinking about and running a successful business in this age of information accessibility. It is how Google works.

What Is Couple Sex?
An 8-year-old girl went to her grandfather, who was working in the yard
and asked him, “Grampa, what is couple sex?”
The grandfather was surprised that she would ask such a question, but
decided that if she’s old enough to know to ask the question,
then she’s old enough to get a straight answer.
Steeling himself to leave nothing out, he proceeded to tell her all
about human reproduction and the joys and responsibilities
of intercourse.
When he finished explaining, the little girl was looking at him with her
mouth hanging open, eyes wide in amazement.
Seeing the look on her face, the grandfather asked her, “Why did you
ask this question, honey?”
The little girl replied, “Grandma says that dinner will be ready in just
a couple secs
At the Outsourcing in Clinical Trials -East Coast meeting in May, several existing FOCM members were spotted and quite a few new members received their cards. Daneil Dixon was seen setting up her booth but no photos were allowed, Kris Kuhner was walking through the exhibit hall with purpose and Pete Nieto was in the bar. Suzanne Besse and Lisa Banket with Pharmavoice, Pippa Wilson and Christina Alexander Smith with Barrington James and Bryan Clayton with Y-Prime all received their cards in a very busy meeting for FOCM.

This was sent to me by FOCM member Andrew Smith. It is a funny look at conference calls if they were actually held in a conference room.

One of the benefits of paying one’s annual FOCM Networking membership (an incredible value at $20/year) is that you get either your business or yourself highlighted in the prestigious “Spotlight”. The first Corporate Member Spotlight featured RxTrials where FOCM member Adam Chasse is the COO and the first Member Spotlight featured Vicky Martin. This is the first spotlight to feature both a person and a business – Julia Parker/Julia Parker Designs.
How do I know Julia and when did I first meet her:
I was introduced to Julia electronically through our mutual friend, Kelly O’Brien. Kelly and I worked together for about 10 years. While Julia and I have not met in person, we were several miles apart in June of this year.
Julia’s bio: Julia comes to the FOCM Network via referral from Kelly O’Brien. Julia grew up in Columbia, NC and graduated from NC State University. Julia currently lives in San Diego, CA.
Spotlight
While it was January 2014, when Julia started Julia Parker Designs (http://juliaparkerdesigns.com/), she has been metalsmithing and doing custom work for 4 years. Julia Parker Designs includes something for everyone – men, women and even children. As you’ll see on her website her Numeral Line (http://juliaparkerdesigns.com/?product_cat=numeral) was designed around the numbers one through nine and each of the pieces holds a subtle representation of its number. The meanings for each of the numbers are listed and people can choose the piece that represents the things they are looking for in their lives or they can choose the piece they are drawn to stylistically. Julia also will work with people to determine their number in numerology if they would like to choose a piece based on that or the number of their family. The rings in the collection are unisex so they work for lots of different styles. The bangles are solid and substantial with a very unique style.
The Bond Bangles (http://juliaparkerdesigns.com/?product=fine-silver-bangles-copy) were created to celebrate mothers and daughters but have expanded to celebrate sisters, best friends, bridesmaids and any of the other special women you want to honor in your life. The fine silver aspect of them is great because they never tarnish even if you get them wet. They are also malleable so they conform to the shape of your wrist and really become yours.
If you’re looking for a gift for someone with a new baby girl coming along the As She Grows (http://juliaparkerdesigns.com/?product=as-she-grows-fine-silver-bangles) bangles are great because they celebrate the stages of a little one’s life. These are also made from fine silver and they can passed down for generations to come.
Julia Parker Designs also has some fun earrings (http://juliaparkerdesigns.com/?product_cat=earrings) on the site. And she absolutely love to do custom work. It’s important for her to know the people who will be wearing her work and she wants to put the thought of them into their pieces.
A member of FOCM who has recently retired after 30+ years of government service has requested help in coming up with a variety of answers to the question he is often asked – What are you going to do today? He has been responding with: “whatever the hell I want”.
He would like some other funny, sarcastic and/or sounds real but means nothing responses.
So, let’s brainstorm some responses. To help you get started:
This one was taken from a friend’s facebook post and I modified it a bit:
I am going to replace the impellers on my two Rio 20HF return pumps and Sedra 5000 skimmer pump. I expect electricity usage to drop by 0.4 Amp.
Uncouple the thermocoupler on the HVAC and replace it with copper spherical bearings.
Work on increasing the wattage of the flux capacitors.
I spotted this great article on LinkedIn by Pam Ross. She offers great tips on how to get better at networking. A summary is:
Use Twitter: to join chats about things you are interested in, to search for people locally, follow event hashtags and attend them.
Use her rule of 3: look for odd-numbered groups of people: 1, 3 or 5, set a small goal of meeting 3 people
Think of how you can help people connect with other people in your network.

I spotted this on LinkedIn, written by Bruce Kasanoff . He is a ghostwriter for entrepreneurs and executives, see his website at: Kasanoff.com. He is the author of How to Self-Promote without Being a Jerk. If you haven’t worked for such a boss, you’re lucky.

Bruce says: Here’s how to spot a CEO who is in over his or her head: they still think business is a zero-sum game in which you try to screw everyone else. You can tell such leaders because they often give speeches according to this crude formula:

Full-time Clinical Project Manager needed for an Oncology/Immunology Project. The study will last for 6 years.
Also a Project Assistant is needed for this project as well. Ideal locations for both positions are RTP, NC and San Diego, CA.
If interested in more information send an email and/or your resume to chris@focmnetworking.com and it will be submitted to the organization managing this trial.
A friend recently pointed out to me that we have about 100-120 years of weather history data and earth has been here for about 4,000 – 300,000,000,000 years, so we simply don’t have enough data to say which way it’s headed. I know we can all agree that climate it’s a changing, for sure. For example, just yesterday it was 83 here and today only getting up to 71.

Excerpt
Naturally occurring changes in winds, not human-caused climate change, are responsible for most of the warming on land and in the sea along the West Coast of North America over the last century, a study has found.
The analysis challenges assumptions that the buildup of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has been a significant driver of the increase in temperatures observed over many decades in the ocean and along the coastline from Alaska to California.
